Ways to Treat Hyperpigmentation on the Face

It is inevitable. .   Dark, uneven spots on your face, your arms and your hands will form over time  .   The cosmetic industry has come along way over the years and with it, they have ways to not only treat hyperpigmentation due to environmental facts, they may also treat it internally as well. In this article, I intend to show you some possibilities to treat hyperpigmentation issues.

Why do we get “age spots”

Chalk it up to too much melanin in some places and not enough in others as the source of your problem. Melanin is the substance in our skin which browns or tans us and protects us from the sun’s rays.  When we are young, our bodies are able to evenly distribute melanin resulting in even skin tone.  As we age, the distribution can start to become splotchy, which results in some areas being darker that others, hence we get the word “age spots”.  These spots can become more pronounced if exposed to the sun.

How to Remove Age Spots

Hyperpigmented skin doesn’t have to be something you will have to live with.  There are ways to fix it.   .   A dermatologist can do a number of treatments that they couldn’t do a few years ago, such as a laser skin treatment. If “cost” is a problem, there are other alternatives.  The other option (and cheaper) is to use a variety of skin products designed to inhibit melanin production.   Add a weekly exfoliation treatment with something like a Kojic Acid Lotion and I think you will be as satisfied as a professional visit to a skin doctor.

Skin Products that inhibit Melanin Production…

The most popular skin products that inhibit melanin production use hydroquinone in them .  Hydroquinone basically inhibits melanin by interfering with a substance called tyrosinase, which catalyze melanin production in our bodies.   It has been outlawed in virtually every country in the world, save the United States  The good news is that there are some natural skin whitening ingredients that mimic the benefits of hydroquinone.  Alpha Arbutin, a substance found in a weed in Canada, is one of them.  They work because they “mimic” the effects of hydroquinone and the body doesn’t know the difference. .

One word of warning…

As with all beauty products, you will want to test them first before you go “all in”.  The reason is that many skin whitening ingredients can aggravate sensitive skin.  Also, although natural creams containing things like Alpha Arbutin seems to be a safe alternative to hydroquinone , understand that it is still fairly new to the cosmetic world and therefore the risks haven’t been fully assessed .

Double your Chances with a deep exfoliator cream…..

While skin whitening creams can work by themselves, sometimes the better option is to add something that exfoliates the skin . Adding a weekly glycolic acid peel at home could produce clearer, younger looking skin   .  There are also some others options that will help to life the darker, dead skin off the face and keep your skin looking younger . For example, you could use a kojic acid soap.  Totally safe for daily use.
